Collection of Works by Fukami Sueharu

Born in Kyoto in 1947, Fukami Sueharu belongs to a generation of ceramic artists in postwar Japan who devoted themselves to the concept of sculptural ceramics. Active since almost 50 years, his early and rare stoneware works are testimony of the young potter's experiments. Today, he is internationally known for his celebrated pale-blue glazed porcelains, a glaze that is inspired by Chinese porcelains of the tenth to thirteenth centuries.

The collection of works by Fukami Sueharu at the Clark Center is unique in the world as it comprises of almost 80 pieces, ranging from his earliest works until his newest. Here is a small selection:
